Primary IB PYP Coordinator (must have previous PYP Coordinator experience) - August 2012
As they are a three-programme IB World School, they would like teachers with IB experience, together with a passion for inquiry-based learning and a preference for collaborative planning. Candidates with international experience and/or fluency in more than one language would love working in this school. The salary and benefits package is excellent. Savings potential is high, due to low cost of living and strong currency in China. Guangzhou is a thriving city that suits foreign teachers and families.
The school prefers to hire teachers with 2+ years experience. They will consider NQTs as they have the capacity to mentor young teachers but the newly qualified teacheres would need to have exceptional qualities. They prefer to take teachers from the following native English speaking countries: Canada, America, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. They do have South African teachers and will consider applicants but visa applications are more problematical with this national group. They take single teachers, married couples (with non teaching spouses) and pay full tuition for up to two dependent children.
They are drawn to teachers who are flexible, enthusiastic and confident. Teachers are expected to full contribute to the life of the school and therefore should be the type of person who settles easily into a new living environment and is able to concentrate wholly on their professional responsibilities.
Teacher turnover is not high. The school has continued to grow and space for further expansion on this site is an issue. Teachers will be impressed with the actual campus site; it is flanked by Golden Lake on one side and some facilities (cafeteria) and classrooms have a very favourable Lakeside outlook.
The stunning lakeside backdrop to this school is a fitting milieu to the quiet confidence and self assurance of a school that deserves the excellent reputation it has accrued amongst expatriate families in Guangzhou. One of the oldest international schools in China, (1997) the school has two campuses and a population of 870 students from 52 different countries worldwide. The largest national group is Koreans comprising around 38% of students followed by Japanese, French and German student groups. Located approximately 20-30 minutes from the CBD, this school is like stepping into a national park! With the beautiful Golden Lake on one side and green, forested hillsides on the other, this is one of the most idyllic campuses you will ever encounter.
