Spotlight On
When teachers initially contact us go work abroad, nine
times out of ten they ask for the major tourist destinations as
their preferred location. This is often because it's familiar
and a gives a level of comfort. But what they don't realise is
that there are so many amazing places to live and work that are
just not tops on the tourist map. What makes a good holiday
destination? Usually it's a few famous landmarks, a big airport
and some western hotels. Oh, and a Starbucks and McDonald's
around the corner. What makes a good place to live and work? A
wider variety of things to do and see, friendly and welcoming
host nationals, having enough money to live on, an easy way of
life, finding the best local coffee shop, appreciating
fascinating and deep culture, and of course a great teaching
job.
To help you broaden your horizons during your job search for
the perfect teaching job abroad, we have developed some
‘spotlight on’ documents so that you can become
more familiar with some of the amazing places around the world
that often have excellent teaching jobs: places you probably
have not thought of! Think about your home country – when
people visit your home country from abroad where do they go? If
you are in the UK it's London, if you are in the US it's New
York and if you are in Australia it's downtown Sydney. But
where you live now is probably more charming and more liveable
with friendly neighbours and lots to do each weekend that
probably aren't on anyone's tourist itinerary. That's how you
have to think about teaching abroad – don't just consider
the holiday destinations, consider the world!
So please read on to find out what's great about Indonesia
and what you can do on the weekends in Kuwait. You might just
learn something amazing.
