Early Years Posts in the Far East and Southeast Asia

Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul and Singapore!

An established and expanding schools group requires school leaders and teachers for their growing Early Years centres in this exciting region of the world. These schools serve children aged 3 to 8, and use both UK as well as International Baccalaureate PYP curricula.

Candidates must have a teaching degree for this age range such as a Bachelors of Education, Bachelors of Early Childhood Education, a degree + PGCE/PGDE or similar. Preference is given to teachers who have qualifications for the Early Years (ages 2-8).

All positions offer:

  • Salary of US$3000-4500/month for teachers, US$4500-5500/month for Directors (depending on qualifications, experience and location). All countries are taxed but tax rates are usually very low, around 10-12%
  • 2 year contracts
  • Flights at beginning and end of contract
  • 2 months salary as bonus upon successful completion of contract
  • Medical coverage
  • Housing or housing allowance

Free tuition is available for the children of teachers; however, because the schools only serve children up to the age of 8, these posts are not suitable for teachers who have children over the age of 6 at the time the contract starts. Teachers with a trailing spouse are encouraged to research job possibilities for their spouses before applying.

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia - Start date July 2010

Kuala Lumpur or simply KL, is the capital of Malaysia. KL has grown from a small sleepy Chinese tin-mining village to a bustling metropolis of around 6.5 million (city-proper population of 1.8 million) in just 150 years. With some of the world's cheapest 5-star hotels, great shopping and even better food, increasing numbers of travellers are discovering this little gem of a city. The Petronas Towers which are some of the tallest buildings in the word have become the symbols for the astounding growth that has taken place in Malaysia over the last two decades. Kuala Lumpur is situated midway along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is approximately 35 km from the coast and sits at the centre of the Peninsula's extensive and modern transportation network.

Teachers flock to KL, with its very low cost of living, high quality of life and the ability to visit fascinating nearby locations such as the beaches of Sabah and Sarawak or the mangroves of Langkawi to feed the eagles. Beach, jungle or city - it's waiting for you.

Japan - Tokyo - Start Date September 2010

Japan-Tokyo

Tokyo is Japan's largest city and is also the capital city. Pulsing with energy and excitement, Tokyo is a vibrant place to live and work, but can also provide an excellent base for exploring the many shrines, mountains, beaches and cultural landmarks on offer in this very old and proud nation. A throbbing metropolis where fashions and electronics become obsolete almost as soon as they are produced, Tokyo's unique vitality springs from this intertwining of the new with the time-honoured old. While it's the wellspring of Japanese pop culture, it is also a place where the imperial family is a tightly held institution.

Singapore - Start date August 2010

Singapore

Singapore has traded in its rough-and-ready opium dens and pearl smugglers for towers of concrete and glass, and its steamy rickshaw image for hi-tech wizardry, but you can still recapture the colonial era with a gin sling under the languorous ceiling fans at Raffles Hotel. At first glance, Singapore appears shockingly modern and anonymous, but this is an undeniably Asian city with Chinese, Malay and Indian traditions from feng shui to ancestor worship creating part of the everyday landscape. It is these contrasts that bring the city to life.

The Republic of Singapore consists of the Island of Singapore and around sixty smaller islands of which just over twenty are inhabited. Singapore is located just off the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsular to which it is linked by a causeway. Singapore City is the country's capital. Singapore has a well developed transportation system with a low cost metro connecting most points of the city.

The main island is about twenty-six miles wide and stretches around fourteen miles from north to south. Almost half its area is built-up. Singapore's climate is tropical and very humid. The winter monsoon period brings the greatest amount of rain. The island has no natural resources except for its location on the trade routes between East and West and the geography which has given it one of the world's finest deep harbours. Singapore has become an international banking and trade centre and is often seen as the gateway to the Far East.
