Culture and history
The Far East has a culture and history just waiting to be explored an discovered. Dynasties, temples, religion, architectural wonders. Despite there being vague ties with language, religion and tradition between each country, you will also find that each country has adopted their own way of life which can vary dramatically between countries, and even between cities and villages.
What is the climate like?
The climate does vary a fair bit from one area to another in Asia. However most countries enjoy warm weather all year round with the rainy season from May to October and a cooler dry season from November to April.
What kind of activities can I do while I am there?
The Far East offers a great variety of activities due to its many different landscapes. You can visit the stunning white sand beaches, go hiking in the mountains, barter in one of the many markets, navigate the streets of some of the busiest cities in the world on bike or foot. The list continues with going to cooking classes to learn some of Asia's most popular dishes, visit animal sanctuaries, go diving and snorkelling, surfing, kayaking, visiting shrines and experiencing the amazing culture that Asia has to offer. All just waiting to be discovered.
Comforts of home
In many places in Asia, you will find a nice balance of traditional and modern life. You will find fast food restaurants, pharmacies all with the same things that you would find in your local shopping mall at home.
Your food cost can be low if you eat in local restaurants, as opposed to the more westernised restaurants that you will find throughout Asia. If you are looking for a taste of home, you will find fast food restaurants and some familiar looking brands in the larger supermarkets.
Transport
A lot of emphasis has been put on improving the transports across Asia. However it does vary between countries. You will find extensive railways networks connecting many of the larger cities in Asia, but as you get into more rural areas you will find transport options fewer and farther between. Air Asia now offer good flight deals and packages and has made travel that much easier in Asia.
The language barrier
The idea that no-one speaks English is a common misconception. Of course the more rural you are, English will be less common, but in the main cities English is widely spoken. International schools in Asia have experienced HR Departments and personnel who really know how to look after teachers, all of whom speak very good English. Do not worry about arriving at your school and having no way of communicating with anyone.
