Assistant Head of Upper School

The Chongqing Campus is due to open in August 2020 and will provide excellent facilities for students. In the first instance the school will cater for early years through to Year 9 and grow with each academic year.

Location Overview: Chongqing is the largest city in southwest China. Within its borders it encompasses a wealth of water reserves, dense forests, and abundant flora and fauna. The focal point of the region is the Yangtze Three Gorges Dam, which is a tourist attraction as well as a commercial venture. The city is famous for its hot Sichuan cuisine and world-famous hotpot dishes. The cost of living in Chongqing is very low; good quality low-cost food is readily available. The cost of transportation is low as is the nightlife. It is possible to get Western goodies and essentials; Subways and Starbucks are plentiful, and new restaurants and authentic Western-style restaurants and cafes are sprouting up all over the city.

Job role and requirements

The Assistant Head reports directly to the Head Upper School on all matters relating to the School. The jobholder is charged with establishing, evaluating and developing the strategic aims and standards of a whole school ethos in partnership with pupils, staff, governors and parents.

Responsibilities will include (in part):

* Work with the Head and SLT to provide strategic leadership to shape and deliver the vision of the school
* Embrace, articulate and model the school's mission, core values and code of conducts in all aspects of school life
* Coordinate with all key leaders, develop the whole school calendar and manage the ongoing approval and overview of events throughout the school year.
* Support the Heads of Lower and Upper school in day to day running of both schools.
* Act as designated safeguarding lead
* Lead the management of Boarding, pastoral and disciplinary procedures
* Actively establish good relations with parents and other visitors to school

You should have:

* At least 4 years' teaching experience
* Experience of leading or coordinating teams in relation to curriculum or pastoral matters
* Ability and willingness to inspire others; leading by example and role modelling school's vision statement.
* Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
* Excellent understanding of the age related development of pupils in all phases
* A strategic thinker
* Experience of working in a boarding environment
