The School

Located in Kowloon Tong, this is a non-profit, co- educational day school for students from Reception (4 years of age) to Year 12. Founded in 1995 to fulfil the growing demand for a premier Australian educational institution in Hong Kong, the School today welcomes more than 1,100 students from over 25 different nationalities. Operating on an Australian school year (late January to mid-December), this is the only school in Hong Kong to utilise the Australian curriculum. Primary students study the Australian national curriculum and Years 7-10 students study the NSW Stage 4 and 5 curriculum, with school based examinations and assessments at the end of Year 10. The school offers senior Secondary students (Year 11 and Year 12) the option to undertake either the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP), creating a seamless transition to all universities in Australia and around the world.

The Role

As a member of the School Leadership Team, the Deputy Head of Secondary reports to the Head of Secondary and Head of School and works closely with the Head and Deputy Heads of Primary, Head of Learning Support, Careers Advisors, School Psychologist and Secondary Heads of Year, as required. The Deputy Head of Secondary supports the Head of Secondary in ensuring high quality curriculum delivery and pastoral care programs in the Secondary Division. They lead the student wellbeing and pastoral care programs, working closely with Heads of Year and Home Room teachers. The Deputy Head of Secondary also plays a key role in ensuring the individual needs of all learners are identified and supported, liaising with the Head of Learning Support and School Psychologist Secondary.

The role involves a Secondary classroom teaching load of approximately 0.3 (15 periods) with 0.7 (33 periods) allocated to administration duties, depending on timetable needs each year.

  • Supporting the Head of Secondary in ensuring high quality delivery of the school's curriculum, including assisting with timetable planning, assessment and reporting, staff professional learning and teacher accreditation, and other duties as delegated by the Head of Secondary.
  • Leading the Secondary Division's student wellbeing and pastoral care programs and supporting the whole school's wellbeing framework. This involves line-managing the Secondary Heads of Year to plan, resource and deliver the pastoral care program.
  • Overseeing the work of the Secondary Heads of House to ensure successful interhouse competitions and student-led events like mufti-days and fundraisers.
  • Leading professional learning for teachers and staff in the areas of Student Wellbeing and Positive Education.
  • Co-Chairing the R-12 Wellbeing Committee with the Deputy Heads of Primary.
  • Working with the Head of Secondary and other key personnel to manage significant behaviour issues, including conducting parent and student interviews, mediations, restorative conversations and actions, child protection investigations.
  • Developing and co-ordinating, in collaboration with the Head of Secondary, the transition program for Secondary as well as support for new students.
  • Working with the Head of Secondary to manage the student leadership programs in Secondary, including School Prefects and SRC.
  • Managing staff absences and teacher relief, as well as the staff duty roster.
  • Supporting the Head of Secondary in the organisation of key division events such as assemblies, graduation ceremonies, meetings etc.
  • Managing the organisation of Secondary camps and activities.

School Criteria

  • Recognised teaching qualifications and extensive knowledge of our schools' curriculum offerings: the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) NSW 7-10, NSW Higher School Certificate and International Baccalaureate Diploma.
  • Demonstrated excellence and experience in classroom teaching and management practices.
  • Highly developed leadership, people management and supervisory skills gained from experience in a senior leadership role in a school.

Salary and Benefits Package

  • Salary for teachers ranges from HK$542,000 to HK$939,000
  • Those taking on positions of leadership are eligible for an additional monetary allowance and/or allocated time release, depending on the responsibilities being undertaken
  • Reimbursement is offered for relocation costs up to HK$25,000 (single person), HK$30,000
  • (couple),HK$40,000(family). This reimbursement may be used to cover airfares, shipment of unaccompanied baggage and costs for purchasing household items for setting up residence in Hong Kong.
  • A gratuity sum equivalent to 21% of the gross salary is paid at the end of each fixed-term contract, ranging from HK$113,000 to HK$197,000
  • Tuition fees will be discounted according to the following schedule: 65% for the first child, 75% for the second and subsequent children
  • Medical Insurance provided by the school
