Head of EAL

Salary: Salary from 270,000 RMB per year - going up with experience and qualifications including departmental stipend.
Sponsorship: Single, Married with or without children
Contract: 2 years renewable

School Overview: This is an Alberta education accredited school made up of dedicated professionals and high achieving students. The school offers a KG to grade 12 education in brand new all purpose facilities at their Panyu campus in Guangzhou. The director performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks in monitoring and assisting the programs for English as an Additional Language students. Primary responsibility is to monitor the overall effectiveness of the English as an Additional Language program and to ensure that all Alberta Education guidelines are implemented. This director will also teach the High School ESL courses.

You will:

* Coordinate the program which serves students who are limited English proficient.
* Provide direction, consultation, and supervision to program employees when needed.
* Consult with administration and school-based staff to ensure that local and Alberta Education policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
* Develop and implement short and long range plans for the efficient operation of the ESL program.
* Coordinate with school personnel, students, and parents to resolve issues/problems related to the individual needs of the limited English proficient student.
* Coordinate/conduct staff development as it relates to the limited English proficient student.
* Purchase needed supplies, textbooks, and materials for the EAL program.
* Keep staff informed and updated on developments concerning EAL and Foreign languages.
* Maintain local database information for all active, inactive, and exited EAL students.
* Conduct parent meetings and assist in coordinating school functions for EAL parents.
* Maintain and revise forms as needed by the ESL/Foreign Languages programs.
* Work with guidance counselors on registration issues or concerns.
* Attend monthly cluster, principal and instructional staff meetings.


* You will be a qualified/certified teacher with a Bachelor of Education related to EAL/ELL/ESL education
* As a first choice you will be Alberta certified however applicants with comparable qualifications from other areas of Canada or US, Australia, New Zealand, UK and South Africa are welcome to apply
* You should have a student centred inquiry based approach to your teaching.
* An ability to work well within a variety of cultures.
* You need to be adaptable and flexible and have a positive approach to life.


* Monthly salary range of $3000 to $4000 USD dependent upon experience plus department leadership stipend.
