School Principal

Region: Far East and South East Asia
Curriculum: Canadian (Alberta)

Contract: 3 years renewable

School Overview: This is an Alberta education accredited school made up of dedicated professionals and high achieving students. The school offers a KG to grade 12 education in brand new all purpose facilities at their Panyu campus in Guangzhou. With a focus on the development of the whole child - students and teachers join a close knit community where you will definitely feel part of a school family. The facilities are second to none including large theatre, pool and fantastic Library facilities.

Location Overview: Known as a very green city, Guangzhou has been voted one of the most live-able in China. It is close enough to Hong Kong for wonderful weekends away and has its own large expatriate community with all of the activities to match the typical expat lifestyle. You will enjoy year round tropical temperatures and find all western facilities imaginable in the centre of the city. You are never more than a few minutes from a Starbucks coffee shop!


a) The Principal shall operate the School in a manner consistent with a first class educational institution of similar type having high all-round academic achievement goals, outstanding moral standards and strong discipline, and shall at all times conduct himself/herself in a manner so as not to bring the reputation of the School into controversy or disrepute.

b) Subject to the Director's direction, the Principal shall:

i) Manage the administrative staff in a manner, that best serves the School;
(ii) Supervise and direct educational staff, including teachers and classroom assistants;
(iii) Conduct performance appraisals for identified staff members;
(iv) Assist in the development and implementation of extra-curricular and summer programs;
(v) Work co-operatively with the Director of schools and the parents' association;
(vi) Carry out any additional duties which may be assigned by the Director of schools, provided that they are consistent with those normally associated with the operation of an international school; and
(vii) Develop and implement the educational policies, goals, and objectives of the School and the educational programs and curricula of the School.
(viii) To perform and be responsible for the School Community as defined by the Leadership Dimensions outlined under the "The Principal Quality Practice Guidelines (PQPG), Alberta Education 2009. This document is available online at:

2. Complaint Referral:

The Principal shall promptly and with full disclosure refer to the Director of CIS all material criticisms, complaints, communications or comments received from the parents of students or other parties regarding the policies and administration of the School or the Principal and any of the School's staff performances.

3. Exclusivity

The Principal shall devote his full time skills, labour and attention to the discharge and performance of his duties during the continuance of this Agreement and shall not without prior written consent of the Board of Supervisors engage in any work for or on behalf of any third party whether for compensation or not.

4) Expense Reimbursement

The Principal shall be authorized to incur reasonable expenses as determined in advance by the Board of Supervisors, within agreed budget or allowance limits, in the discharge of his duties. The School will pay or reimburse the Principal for such expenses upon presentation, from time to time, of an itemized account of such expenditures/invoices.

5) Performance Appraisal

The Director of schools shall be responsible for the evaluation of the Principal's performance on an annual basis. Performance is based on the TQS or Principal.

6) Location and Priority

The Principal is assigned the roles and responsibilities to manage and lead the school Community in Panyu, Guangzhou China. The principal is responsible to ensure the Alberta Education requirements are achieved, as defined by the Handbook for Alberta Accreditation of International Schools.
