Vice Principal - Elementary School

Required: August 2020

School Overview: This is an Alberta education accredited school made up of dedicated professionals and high achieving students. The school offers a KG to grade 12 education in brand new all purpose facilities at their Panyu campus in Guangzhou. With a focus on the development of the whole child - students and teachers join a close knit community where you will definitely feel part of a school family. The facilities are second to none including large theatre, pool and fantastic Library facilities.

Location Overview: Known as a very green city, Guangzhou has been voted one of the most live-able in China. It is close enough to Hong Kong for wonderful weekends away and has its own large expatriate community with all of the activities to match the typical expat lifestyle. You will enjoy year round tropical temperatures and find all western facilities imaginable in the centre of the city. You are never more than a few minutes from a Starbucks coffee shop!


The role of the Assistant Principal is to provide support to the Principal with the operation and management of the school. The school believes your skill as an Assistant Principal will be best applied but not limited to the following leadership tasks:

1. Improve the quality of teaching and learning throughout the educational community:

* Develop a culture for Professional Learning which encourages the sharing of best practices through professional dialogue and collaborative observations
* Facilitate in-house professional development focussing on priority areas identified through the PLC
* Provide individual coaching to improve teacher effectiveness
* Provide feedback through regular classroom observations using tools such as the "Walk-Through Tool"
* Observe, document and review a minimum of two teacher evaluations per year, using the Alberta Education Accreditation Teacher Observation format
* Develop and supervise the action plan for each teacher's Professional Growth Plan
* Establish and implement an ongoing student "Assessment for Learning" strategy to provide feedback for teachers and parents

2. Improve the efficient operation of the school:

* Establish a minimum of 4 reporting periods to communicate evidence of learning
* Organize a Celebration of Learning event, a minimum of once per month
* Create a school calendar which includes all educational deadlines and school events
* Provide a supervision schedule
* Create a yearly bell and period schedule for each division
* Organize and Host Parent Advisory meetings, minimum of one per month
* Review and supervise the student registration process
* Supervise the Bussing schedule and routes

3. Provide Marketing strategies and Marketing activities for the school.

* Direct and supervise the development of a new school website
* Develop a parent portal through the school website
* Expand the use of Wechat as a communication and marketing tool
* Develop a yearly Marketing Calendar specifying monthly activities and events
* Organize a monthly Open Day, Special Events and Student Performance
* Organize and facilitate marketing events and activities both in-house and within the community
* Host monthly marketing meetings with all members of the marketing team
* Expand communication tools and training for all Marketing staff
* Work collaboratively with the Principal of the Canadian Language School to develop and align a campus marketing strategy

4. Increase student enrolment:

* Develop ongoing highlights of the school through social and print media
* Update new website with News and Activities articles
* Expand program information, provide parent presentations, conduct school tours and meet with potential parents
* Provide information regarding programming opportunities and educational value through presentations offsite at Kindergartens and Learning Centres

5. Expand and improve the Option Programming and Summer School

* Develop a list of options which best aligns with each division
* Develop a schedule to maximize the access to options for each division
* Communicate and confirm the understanding and selection of options with all parents
* Develop a school Summer School program to be offered during the month of July
* Assign courses, staff and supervision for Summer School

6. Create and promote a positive school community atmosphere through professionalism, integrity and a focus on continuous learning.


* Alberta certification or equivalent
