Harrow Hong Kong Children School, Shenzhen Qianhai

This school benefits from a truly 21st-century purpose-built campus in Qianhai, Shenzhen, where technology and a cutting-edge approach to teaching and learning provide students with every opportunity to excel, both within and beyond the classroom. Drawing on the significant resources in the Greater Bay Area, the school aims to become an educational hub focusing on STEAM, innovation, and the nurturing of bi-literate, trilingual, students (Cantonese, Mandarin, and English) who will go on to attend the world's very best universities. The school opened in 2023 and caters to the children of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents and expatriates aged 2 to 18. The school delivers a Hong Kong curriculum leading to HKDSE, IBDP, and senior secondary level.

Shenzhen is the youngest first tier city in China, where the average age of the population is under thirty. Responsibilities as Head of Boarding

  • Formulate and implement a one-year departmental development plan based on the School's three-year strategic plan and one-year development plan.
  • Lead, support and manage boarding staff effectively.
  • Establish a highly effective leadership and communication structure across the boarding department.
  • Evaluate the quality, standards and impact of boarding support within the boarding department and implement effective performance appraisal procedures as appropriate for the Head of department.
  • Present a coherent, understandable and accurate account of boarding learning programmes and performances to a range of audiences, including senior leaders, the board and parents.
  • Develop a bank of effective assessment strategies, collection methods and tools for tracking student learning and progress in and across year groups.
  • Support colleagues in ensuring effective curriculum coverage, continuity, progression, support and challenge.
  • Establish a culture of high expectations and professional responsibility. Build effective collaborative learning communities within and beyond the school / department.
  • Contribute towards leading and coaching boarding extra-curricular activities.
  • Assist the school leadership in the overall development in curriculum and assessment from a cross-curricular perspective.

School Requirements

  • Fully qualified with a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience
  • Knowledge of the HKDSE Curriculum issued by the CDCHK or National Curriculum of England.
  • Evidence of relevant and challenging continuing professional development.
  • Effective implementation of learning and teaching strategies is necessary to achieve appropriately set teaching objectives that are in line with curriculum goals.
  • Understanding of how children develop and learn.
  • Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, in accordance with all relevant safeguarding policies and practices.
  • Knowledge and experience of how to use IT effectively in promoting pupil learning.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of working with pupils for whom English is not their first language, or with pupils at secondary level, is a bonus.
  • Effective communication and engagement with parents.
  • Respect for all members of a school community

Salary and Benefits Package

The compensation package is very generous and includes the following;

  • A competitive salary package
  • An annual bonus of 10% of salary, subject to appraisal
  • Full health insurance coverage for teachers as well as coverage for dependents
  • Fully-furnished accommodation provided for teachers
  • Return Airfare and baggage allowances for teacher and dependents
  • 100% remission on tuition fees for up to two (2) dependent children attending the School. 50% remission on tuition fees for the third dependent child onward.
  • The cost of all working visas, dependents' resident visas and work permits is paid for by the school
