This school is located within the sustainable, community-driven Nuanu Creative City in Tabanan, Bali. Qualifications & Experience

The School Counsellor plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of students from Reception through Year 9. The Counsellor provides social, emotional, and behavioural support to students, promotes a positive school environment, and ensures that students' wellbeing is nurtured through individual and group sessions, as well as structured wellbeing education.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Education with a focus on Guidance and Counseling is preferred. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be accepted with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in an international school setting.
  • Certification or licensing as a school counselor is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 work references from previous employers.
  • Familiarity with international education systems (IGCSE, IB, or other curricula)
  • Having experience working with SEN students will be an advantage.
  • Police record check.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young learners.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and teachers.
  • Expertise in mental health support, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Passion for teaching and a commitment to providing quality education to young learners.
  • Ability to provide academic, career, and personal guidance to students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one counselling and group sessions for students who require emotional or behavioural support, both ongoing and "drop-in" cases.
  • Maintain and manage a caseload of students in need of support, documenting sessions via Google Calendar to be shared weekly with the Deputy Head of School and Head of School.
  • Respond to emerging student needs, collaborating with teachers, parents, and leadership when necessary to support student wellbeing.
  • Lead one wellbeing lesson per term for each year level from Year 3 to Year 9. This includes planning and discussing the lesson content with the relevant teaching teams to ensure integration with the curriculum and addressing specific student needs.
  • Oversee and deliver sex education lessons for upper primary and middle school students, ensuring content is age-appropriate and aligned with the Cambridge curriculum guidelines.
  • Provide child protection education to students across the school, focusing on personal safety, boundaries, and understanding of rights.
  • Work with teachers to embed child protection education in appropriate subject areas and activities.
  • Serve as a key figure in the school's child protection framework, ensuring staff and students are educated and aware of safeguarding protocols.
  • Conduct mandatory child protection training for all new staff and vendors, ensuring this is completed before they begin working with students.
  • Support and, in some cases, lead lessons of a more delicate nature regarding child protection.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and the school's leadership team to ensure the wellbeing programme is tailored to the needs of the student body.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to provide updates on wellbeing initiatives and student support programmes.
  • Discuss the integration of wellbeing lessons and support strategies with teaching staff and ensure alignment with the school's curriculum.
  • Stay current with developments in counselling, child protection, and student wellbeing practices, particularly those relevant to primary and middle school-aged students.
  • Engage in relevant professional learning to enhance personal skills and contribute to the school's overall student support framework.
